Stress Intensity Factors and T-Stress Solutions for 3D Asymmetric Four-Point Shear Specimens

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this paper, extensive three-dimensional finite element analysis is conducted to study an asymmetric four-point shear (AFPS) specimen: a widely used mixed-mode I/II fracture test specimen. Complete solutions of mechanics parameters KI, KII, KIII, T11, and T33 have been obtained for wide range a/W t/W geometry combinations. It demonstrated that the thickness specimen has significant effect on variation parameter values. Their effects crack tip plastic zone are also investigated. The results presented here will be very useful toughness testing materials under loading conditions.

Shear Stress Intensity Factors for a Planar Crack With Slightly Curved Front

Recent work (Rice, 1985a) has presented the calculations of the first order variation in an elastic displacement field associated with arbitrary incremental planar advance of the location of the front of a half-plane crack in a loaded elastic full space. That work also indicated the relation of such calculations to a three-dimensional weight function theory for crack analysis and derived an exp...

Multigrid methods for the computation of singular solutions and stress intensity factors I: Corner singularities

We consider the Poisson equation −∆u = f with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition on a two-dimensional polygonal domain Ω with re-entrant angles. A multigrid method for the computation of singular solutions and stress intensity factors using piecewise linear functions is analyzed. When f ∈ L2(Ω), the rate of convergence to the singular solution in the energy norm is shown to be O(h), and t...

Stress Intensity Factor of Radial Cracks for Rotating Disks and Cylinders using Average Stress Method

This article utilizes the average stress method to obtain the stress intensity factor of rotating solid and hollow disks/cylinders containing a radial crack‎. ‎It is assumed that the cracks are located radially at center‎, ‎internal or external radius of the geometry‎. ‎Results are shown for both of the plane stress and plane strain assumptions and are validated against the known data introduce...

Photoelastic Determination of Mixed Mode Stress Intensity Factors

A two dimensional finite model with inclined crack at different crack angles are being analyzed in mixed mode condition using photo elasticity method for the determination of Stress Intensity Factors. The well-known Sih’s equation and three points deterministic approach is used for the determination of stress intensity factors. The effects of biaxial load factor, crack angle, size factors were ...
